We teamed up with Perth based Fashion and Lifestyle Bloggers Louisa and Holly from The Boyfriend Shirt to be our eyes and ears at this year’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Sydney, while wearing some of our favourite new arrivals. If you couldn’t attend yourself but are keen to know all the fine details straight from the runway and what’s trending this season, you can read their MBFW wrap-up right here!
Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia is always a crazy ride and this year was no different. We had a packed schedule of showings from Australian and International designers alike which always inspires us, as well as the cool and sometimes kooky street style on display off the runway during the week.
Some show highlights included Macgraw at the iconic Swifts Mansion on Darling Point who served up Elizabethan – witchy vibes in the best possible way. The girls had us craving cosy nights in long skirts and big sleeves, coupled with curly but not over styled hair for that seemingly effortless cool girl tousled look.
The Emilia Wickstead x Matches show had us pinching ourselves as to how this could be real life, with cocktails and canapes on arrival before transporting us to a Slim Aarons – esque set straight off the Riviera. The looks harked back to a simpler era where people spent summer trips whiling away their time over a game of chess or reading a good book rather than glued to their iPhone.
As always Anna Quan made us want to live out our Parisian dreams with her trademark sharp tailoring that was injected with some well-placed colour pops for contrast this season.
Key trends we saw throughout the week included longer hemlines with handmaiden/ Elizabeth Bennet vibes which had us dreaming of spending an afternoon in an English manor in the countryside.
We continued to see lots of structure and tailoring throughout the week with more polished finishes to garments, again perhaps a nod to the more ladylike direction of most designers.
Shoes were left to do a lot of the talking on the street style stage, with many opting to wear relatively paired back looks punctuated by a punchy boot or statement heels. The sneaker trend is still going strong (thank goodness) with many a street style star and model alike being spotted in sneakers, on and off the runway.
With comfort and style at the top of our minds going into winter, we are going to be wearing our PLAYER boots in black and UNITED boots in white on high rotation. Both are subtle enough for day wear but pack a fashion forward punch like those we saw at Fashion Week.
For a more ladylike take on a heel we adore our FOXY pumps in red, they’re the perfect shoe to dress up an otherwise casual blue denim look. Finally, to toughen up the ‘lady of the manor’ vibes you can’t go past the refined embellishment of the VISION boot which can also do double duty to add an edge to a denim look.
