Hi guys my name is Nadine, I am the Senior Digital Marketing and Retail Coordinator here at Betts. I recently jetted off to New York with my best friend - and former Betts colleague Lei Lei, for the ultimate girl’s trip; three weeks in The Big Apple living like locals as well as eating, drinking and shopping our way through the city.
Wearing our unisex sneaker DALLAS the perfect shoe for days exploring the city
I was lucky enough to road test some of our new Betts summer styles, when choosing what shoes to bring with me to New York I knew I would be walking a lot – we averaged about 15,000 steps a day and on some days got up to 22,000 steps, so I needed options that would be both comfortable, versatile and work with a variety of looks. Scroll down to discover my New York City guide and see what Betts shoes you need in your wardrobe this summer!
Wearing our leather slide CHILL OUT- the perfect travel companion for its versatility and comfort
I am a massive foodie, so before arriving in New York I prepared a list of all the key places I wanted to go to – as I couldn’t bare the thought of wasting a meal! Here are some of my favourite places.
The Egg Shop – The perfect brunch spot for egg-heads, pictured above.
Eataly – A dream come true for any foodie, this Italian food emporium consists of multiple delis, restaurants and shops.
Butcher’s Daughter – Vegetarian café, perfect for brunch.
Citizens of Chelsea – Beautiful Australian owned café in the heart of Chelsea, incredible food and great coffee. Pictured below.
By Chloe – The vegan answer to Shake Shack – Yum!!
Shake Shack – For those looking for typical American burgers, fries and shakes – they also have a veggie option.
Cha Cha Matcha – For those that love matcha, this is your heaven.
Joe’s Pizza in Brooklyn – Get the best $2 slice pizza.
Magnolia Bakery – Obligatory stop for their famous red velvet cake.
Eleni’s – Their playfully decorated cookies are a must.
The Plaza Food Hall – This is one of New York’s best hidden secrets, it’s the perfect lunch stop. I suggest getting a lobster roll from Luke’s Lobster and a red velvet cupcake from Billy’s Bakery and go sit in Central Park.
Sidewalk Vendors – The perfect snack for when you’re on-the-go, get a pretzel, hotdog, bagel or Mexican!
The Brooklyn Bridge at sunrise – This is an incredible experience and less people means great photos. While you’re there go walk around Brooklyn Heights and admire the beautiful brownstone apartments and coloured doors of this affluent area.
DUMBO – Get the perfect shot with the Williamsburg Bridge.

Rooftop cocktails - Admire the Manhattan Skyline at The Whythe Hotel in Brooklyn or admire a 360 view of Manhattan at Jimmy at The James.
Take a Ferry – Explore the surroundings and catch a ferry to Staten Island, you get the perfect view of The Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline.
A Broadway Show – This is a must, the Book of Morman, The Lion King, Aladdin are all great.
Times Square at sunrise – If you want to experience the energetic atmosphere and bright lights go at night time otherwise I suggest going at sunrise to see the screens but with less people and better photos!
Visit a Museum – From the Met to the Whitney or the Guggenheim, there is a museum suited to everyone’s style and aesthetic.
Top of The Rock – Sweeping views of New York and the perfect view of the Empire State Building.

Grand Central Station – Have your Gossip Girl moment and make sure to go to the whisper wall!
High Line – Get a different perspective of the city by following The High Line, a public park built on a historic rail line elevated above the streets on Manhattan’s West Side.
Chelsea Markets – Located in an old factory in the heart of Chelsea, this is one of the best markets in New York. From delicious food to vintage clothing and handmade jewellery, you will find anything and everything here.

Wearing our bow mule HIGHLIGHT
1. Pack the right shoes – Before I pack for a holiday I always allocate my shoes to specific activities; walking and exploring; sneakers, casual strolling; sandals and evenings and event; heels. Another important rule when packing shoes for a holiday is to make sure they are versatile enough to go with a variety of different outfits.
2. Follow relevant Instagram accounts in the city you are visiting – Some of the best places I went to were through recommendations from people on Instagram.
3. Write a see, do, eat list - Prepare a list of the things you want to see, do and eat, it helps organise your days, maximise your time and avoids you walking around aimlessly.
4. Bring a portable phone charger and a spare camera battery with you everywhere – This is the best tip I was told before travelling, if you are planning to take a lot of photos on your phone and camera as well as Instagram Story and Snapchat I suggest investing in a portable phone charger and a spare camera battery.
5. Enjoy the moment - Although we all want to capture that perfect shot for the gram, just remember to enjoy the moment and take in all of your surroundings.
