Autumn Winter 17

Autumn Winter 17

This year we decided to say farewell to the concept of dressing specifically for one season. “Due to social media and online shopping, international trends can be seen and shopped instantly. This changes the consumer’s attitude and therefore we can no longer be dictated by weather patterns or seasonal restrictions when planning our range" says Amy, our Ladies Product Developer. With this in mind at Betts we decided to deliver a range of styles outside of the normal seasonal calendar – like thigh high boots in summer, so come rain, hail or sunshine we had the perfect pair of shoes for every possible situation.

The Autumn Winter 17 range was predominantly inspired by our trend forecasting travels, international and domestic catwalks and social media. There were so many micro trends appearing that we saw the importance of showcasing these separately. “By splitting our AW17 season into 5 main collections we are able to offer a wider range of looks that would transpire from practical to decorative, youthful to contemporary yet still keeping our target market in focus. Also layered into this are our key seasonal trends, such as the over-the-knee-boot that can be styled easily into any one of our collections” says Amy, our Ladies Product Developer.

We really wanted this concept to be translated into our campaign, so this season we decided to breakdown each collection into a distinct look. From the styling to the backdrop, each collection embodies one of the many different fashion personalities within each of us. We've already launched Urban Street and The Purist and we look forward to bringing you the rest of the collections of the next few months, for now you can read more about them below.

Autumn Winter 17

Urban Street: This collection is all about adding serious attitude and cool casual style to your everyday looks. Inspired by the youthful street and skate culture with a nudge to the 90s, the aesthetic is sporty, relaxed with underlying grunge for pavement pounding style!

The Purist: Discover your softer side with The Purist. Inspired by a clean and minimalist aesthetic this collection is all about pared back designs and going back to basics. Whilst the colour palette remains neutral with soft pinks, taupes, creams and greys, this collection is elevated through the use of interest materials such as patents, plush velvets and metallic rose gold hues.

Electrified: With an ode to 80s disco, our Electrified collection is all about head-turning statement style! Bold jewel tones of burgundy and midnight blue, luxe fabrics like velvet and glittering metallics collided to create show-stopping styles that prove more really is MORE!

Romanic Explorer: Totally romantic, whimsical and feminine, our Romantic Explorer collection is all about embracing your softer side. Think detailed fabrics, lace, ruffles, faux fur as well as soft and luxurious textures like velvet. A mostly neutral colour palette of nudes, pinks, tans and taupes will take centre stage, adding a fresh take on classic winter looks.

Black Gloss: Perfect for party-wear, our Black Gloss collection is all about adding sexy with a touch of attitude to your after dark looks! With a moody and stark colour palette of mostly black, the shoes are brought to life with interesting finishes and textures like patents, high gloss materials, velvets, lurex and metallics.

Which is your favourite collection and why?

Robyn: I don’t think I can pick just one favourite… I love having the opportunity to channel a different persona with each one. If I wake up one morning and want to be a bit loud and fun then I will go with the Electrified look. I’ll put on my glitter boots with a really cute dress. If I’m feeling a little more pretty and demure I will opt for more of The Purist approach and probably style my loafers with a pair of wide leg trousers. Some days I just want to be comfy and chic so a logo tee and some sneakers is the best way to pull of the Urban Street look.

What are the three key trends that every wardrobe needs this Autumn Winter?

Amy: A classic ankle boot, such as CHARLOTTE to take you from day to night. An over-the-knee boot, I would choose PHANTOM with its mid height block heel and suede-like upper. Then of course add a touch of luxe with velvet, opt for a statement book like CHEAT or a simple block heel such as SANTA MONICA.

How important are colour and the use of interest fabrics this season?

Robyn: So important! We’ve seen how neutral the colour palette has been over the last couple of seasons, so to be able to play around with texture and add some depth and interest into the neutrals is so exciting. I’m obsessed with velvet at the moment. It’s just so luxe and beautiful. I think patent materials are also adding a glam look to things this season. To have some of the dual tones show up this winter is also really nice because you can add pops of colour to a really simple outfit.
